Baseball team claims district title

The Terriers celebrate their win that named them District champions.

Friday was a day of multiple occasions for celebration. Between being seniors’ last day, Cinco de Mayo and an end to the first week of AP testing, the weekend is welcomed with open arms. However, there is another cause for celebration. The Hillsborough baseball team won the district title game against King High School 7-2.

Jarrod Cande pitched for half of the night, and kept the King Lions at bay. In an interesting twist, Tim Elko took over pitching, although his normal positions are first and third baseman. “I was really excited and happy with the result, obviously,” Elko said. “We played hard and we worked hard all year. Just to be able to do this is a great accomplishment for us.”

Terence Doston also had a strong presence in the game, as a single he hit brought Cande and Ryan Romano home to up the score to 7 runs. “I contributed to the team and I got two RBI’, put up more runs to make it harder for the other team to catch up, because we have a solid defense,” Doston said.

This win secured a home game for the playoff game on Tuesday, May 9 against Lake Region for the regional quarterfinals. The game begins at 7 p.m.
