Flag football has turned over girls every season. This season alone they only have three returners, one being senior Janisha Smith. “We have became a family over time, little by little… we actually get along now, from when we first started,” said Smith.
The team is full of girls that are not only new to flag football, but also sports. This has made the games more difficult for the Hillsborough team. “It’s kind of different… most of them have not played a sport before or played flag football but we’ve made improvement since our first game… but I think we’re going to get better,” senior Katherine Dinarte remarked.
One freshman actually changed from softball mid-season in order to be a part of the new flag football season. “I play flag football better than softball… I get more field time,” Marquicia Mosley stated about leaving the softball team.
With new girls and a new coaching staff, Coach Brittaney Ridley being a first year coach for flag and it only being Coach Patrick’s second year, the team needs to work hard in order to achieve their goals of progressing.
Hillsborough lost 35-0 against Chamberlain. The team’s next opportunity for a win will be Thursday, March 30th at Leto. “The score… don’t really matter as long as we gain potential as we go,” said Smith.
