The Cubs and Indians make it to the World Series

It was the goat’s curse.

The last time the Cubs made it to the World Series was 1945, and the last time the team won the game was 1908. That’s 108 seasons of baseball. However, there’s a myth as to why the Cubs have had such a dry spell: because of William Sianis’ goat incident.

Sianis was a tavern owner; before game four of the Wrigley Field- hosted 1945 World Series, Sianis was stopped at the gate because he tried to bring his goat inside the park. Ever since then, the Cubs have not returned to the National League Pennant.

The Cleveland Indians also have made history. The last time the team was in the World Series was 1948.

“I am rooting for either [team] to win because I think that they both deserve to be in [the World Series]. But yeah, I am excited because it is historic for them to actually be in the World Series. [It has been] such a long time for both of them actually,” said AP U.S. history teacher Lisa Sigmon.

However, some Terriers are indifferent about baseball and the World Series. “I don’t know. I don’t care. Good luck for both [of the teams]…,” said sophomore Felix Montilla.

Other Terriers are rooting for the Cubs because of its close ties to Tampa. “Well, I want the Cubs to win because they have a lot of former Rays people, like Joe Maddon, their manager… Don’t forget about Ben Zobrist. Ben Zobrist is a nice guy; he deserves another World Series,” said senior Jonni Shell.

As of now, the series is 1-1 between the Cubs and the Indians.
