To get into the holiday spirit the Terriers boys and girls basketball teams will be hosting the annual Teddy Bear Toss. The event will take place on Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. at the Hillsborough vs. Robinson game in the gym.
To participate, bring a teddy bear to throw on the court during halftime and the teddy bears will be donated to the children in need right here in our community.
“I feel special that I’m able to be a part of the Teddy Bear Toss,” point guard Juli Lopez said. “We just really want to give to the children who won’t be able to get gifts this Christmas.”
The idea originated in Coach Orlando Goodwin’s sports marketing class back in 2007 when a few students saw a video of a Teddy Bear Toss and thought it’d be a great way to give back. This turned into an annual tradition that the team still practices today.
“This is one of the coolest things the players get to do. Everyone looks forward to it.” Lopez said.
