Trick or treating has always been an October staple since I was young, along with the pumpkin spice lattes and Ugg boots. Many people begin to shame trick or treating when you get older and I don’t think that’s fair. I rarely went out trick or treating as a kid but the times that I did I had a blast with the different experiences. I wouldn’t want to stop that just because society frowns upon it.
Trick or treating is one of the things that most people do when their young and personally when I think about it I get a nostalgic feeling. For me I love coming up with new ideas for costumes that reflect me as a person, it makes everything a little more personal. It’s fun to create the costumes by hand or even just picking ones out in the stores. Although, I have had my fair share of adults look at me weirdly when they try to guess my costume.
I began to notice that the older I get the more dangerous trick or treating at night seems, but I find that as long as you travel in groups or with adult supervision you aren’t likely to get murdered. As well, walking around your neighborhood with companions for candy is just a fun occasion. I love to hang out with my friends, especially the ones that I don’t get to see often whether I don’t share classes with them or if they go to a different school, trick or treating brings us all together.
At the end of the day everyone has different opinions on when you’re too old to trick or treat but to me, it doesn’t really matter what others think as long as you enjoy yourself.
