Remembering the Life of Kobe Bryant

Today marks two years since the tragic Calabasas helicopter crash that caused nine deaths, one of which was Kobe Bryant. With the world ever-inspired by him and what he was able to achieve, the late-NBA star is deeply mourned today and for years to come.

Bryant is best known for his twenty-year span of dominating the National Basketball Association: A five-time NBA champion, two-time Finals MVP, a one-time regular season MVP, two scoring titles, as well as a whopping 18 all-star game appearances. Need I say more?

Even though Bryant has all the accolades to remain relevant for generations to come, he is best appreciated for his commitment to charity and supporting several communities.

Kobe was involved in countless charity efforts throughout his lifetime. He worked with and donated to organizations like Stand Up to Cancer, the Make-A-Wish foundation, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, and many more. He also co-founded the Mamba Sports Academy, a spacious training facility in which his late daughter, Gianna Bryant, played club basketball for. Kobe coached his daughter’s club team.

Unfortunately though, as all things in the world, Bryant’s reputation wasn’t perfect.

He faced a legal challenge in 2005 when an employee of The Lodge and Spa at Cordillera (a hotel he was staying at prior to a minor surgery) accused him of sexual assault in his hotel room. Kobe denied the allegations and the case was later dropped because the accuser refused to testify in court.

As a result of this incident, a marginal group of people stand to hold distaste for Bryant and discredit his largely reputable status.

However, due to there being no evidence of the accusers claims as well as a refusal to pursue legal action after making such heavy allegations, the majority of Bryant’s followers don’t hold the events against him. His amazing status doesn’t coincide with the claims that were made, and he is largely seen as innocent in the court of public opinion.

Kobe lives on through his wife and daughters, as well as the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation, which is dedicated to creating a positive impact for underserved athletes by providing funding and sports programming to enable participation in school and league sports that enrich socio-economic and physical development.

With an impact on the world so immeasurable and a legacy so pristine, Kobe Bryant is remembered greatly by the world today and forever.
