Three miles south of Hillsborough, Downtown Tampa host’s the Super Bowl for the first time since 2009.

After a big win last Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers clinched a ticket to the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Tampa bay buccaneers are the first team to ever play the Super Bowl in their home stadium. Tampa bay survived a scary comeback attempt from the packers last Sunday that ended 31-26.

Tampa bay’s last loss was at home against the Chiefs on Nov. 29 but that game is also when the buccaneers finally started playing like the team they are supposed to be. Tampa Bay has gone on to win seven in a row, while Kansas City has only lost one game all year, setting up a great rematch for the biggest game of the year. This is Tampa bay’s first appearance in the Super Bowl since the 2002 season while the chiefs are the defending champions. The chiefs are favored to win this game while the Bucs have home fields advantage.

A big part of the Buccaneers making the Super Bowl is the big free agent signing of Tom Brady last offseason. Tom Brady has brought that winning culture to Tampa; he has put the mindset of ‘we are going to the Superbowl’ into every player’s head.

“D, Theres a bigger bowl I’m chasing. Were all chasing it. Cmon,” Tom Brady told Buccaneers linebacker Devin White when he was mad about not making the pro bowl. Brady has playoff experience and his helping all his teammates excel in the playoffs by being a leader and all his teammates respect him. This is Brady’s 10th Superbowl appearance breaking his previous record of nine and is looking forward to winning his seventh Superbowl.

Chiefs starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes has already won an MVP and Superbowl MVP at the age of 25. He is looking to win his second super bowl, but he has to beat the QB that beat him two years ago in the playoffs. Brady and Mahomes have history and faced each other in the AFC championship game in 2018 with Brady winning in overtime and going on to win his sixth Superbowl. A lot of people would say Mahomes is the next Brady, meaning this game will impact the rest of Mahomes career. If Brady wins, it will be hard for people to say that Mahomes will be better, because he couldn’t beat Brady, but if Mahomes wins he would have his second Superbowl at the age of 25 only needing four more to tie brady.

Although most the talk around this game is that both teams have great offenses with great QBs, neither team would be here if they didn’t have a good defense. The Chiefs defense had three Pro-Bowlers this year in Frank Clark, Chris Jones, and Tyrann Mathieu while the Bucs only had one Pro-Bowler in Jason Pierre-Paul. Even though the Bucs only had one Pro-Bowler they still had some of the league’s best players at their positions. Devin White and Lavonte David lead the defense and know they have a big challenge with Mahomes. This game is not expected to be low scoring because of how high powered these offenses are, so whatever defense can get the most takeaways or limit the other team’s offense will win the game.
