The Big Red Band and orchestra performed at Chick-fil-a Monday night during a fundraiser to raise money for their April trip to Charleston and Savannah. The concert included performances from orchestra and sectionals including flutes, clarinets, and trumpets.
The orchestra performed “Palladio and “A Charlie Brown Christmas” along with a reading of “‘Twas The Night Before Christmas” accompanied by music and narrated by junior Matthew Lewicki. “I think it went pretty well,” junior Sierra Sanne said.
After the orchestra’s performance, seniors Amber Lo and Simone Francis and junior Abhay Satyajit performed as a clarinet trio, followed by performances from the flute and trumpet sections. The flute section’s performance included several band students who do not ordinarily play the flute, including Lo. “I was playing the flute because I wasn’t really sure what the clarinets were doing, and, as a drum major, I’m not communicating with them as much,” Lo said. “So i decided, you know what, I can learn.”
After being force to cancel their performance at Chick-fil-a last year, the band was able to hold this fundraiser for the first time. Along with their performance, a portion of the food sales will be donated towards the band’s upcoming trip. Band and Orchestra will also be performing at their annual winter concert on Thursday, Dec. 12.
