French Honors Society is a club whose purpose is to further the interest in the French language and culture among the student body. This year FHS invited 21 students to become members. Junior Evelise Monteagudo, who was inducted, said “I felt really excited and honored to be apart of a life-long society”.
This ceremony carried on the long-lasting tradition where the senior members light the candles of the new members as part of their induction into the club. The seniors who will be leaving soon were also honored during the ceremony. They passed on the torch of their enthusiasm for the society and the motto of the club, “L’homme qui sait deux langues en vaut deux!” (he who knows two languages is worth two).
Junior Lazlo Nziga said “I think it’s cool that more people were inducted and that French Honor Society is growing. We should be able to do more and cooler projects next year”.
Club president and senior Dayan Vizoso said “it’s wonderful that we have such a program whose superordinate goal is to promote and maintain French culture outside of France. It’s very important to not only be aware of other cultures but to respectfully embrace them through education”.
Carol Cummings, the society’s sponsor, said she’s “happy to see the club growing and that students want to participate and have fun learning about another language and culture”.
