I stand in line contemplating my purchase of orange or bourbon chicken. Crowds of people with phones to their heads leave the exits on both sides of the Westfield Citrus Park Town Center food court. The cashier looks frantically around the mall in search of something, a mystery. I pay for my food and one of the servers asks a mall security guard why everyone is exiting the building so quickly. There’s a man with a gun. Evacuate.
On Nov. 23 shots were fired by a man who was attempting to steal jewelry from a Meher Jewelers kiosk, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriffs Office.
A Meher Jewelers employee chased the robber and was able to retrieve the stolen item after being shot at. The thief escaped into a get away car and the authorities continue to search for the criminal.
The Dick’s Sporting Goods mall entrance was taped off as a crime scene and according to WTSP, “Deputies scoured the area for evidence outside and at the jewelry counter.”
The suspect was arrested Nov. 29.
