Oct. 23 was a very special day for many people and animals. This was the day that the Humane Society of Tampa Bay held their annual gala event, Tuxes and Tails.
Tuxes and Tails is a very special event and it is an amazing event where all the animal lovers gather. This year’s theme was Enchanted Scotland and it marked the 18th year that the gala’s been hosted. Tickets were sold in July and in less than a week, they sold out the Tampa Convention Center.
Guests were surrounded by dogs, with the four-legged attendees brushing past their legs. Kittens with big eyes would peer through their cages, looking out for potential adopters.
The event started off by mingling with the adoptable pets and was followed by an Ask shortly after. An Ask is when all the guests sit down for dinner and they hold up their paddles to donate money. During this portion of the night, over $400,000 was donated. After the Ask, a silent auction followed. Some of the prizes included winning an afternoon with Tom Brady and celebrating with Rob Gronkowski at a pool party. Furthermore, the gala included live entertainment from bagpipe performers, a cocktail hour and an after party by the Riverwalk.
President of Hillsborough’s Lend a Paw Club and a longtime volunteer of the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, senior Lauren Novorska helped organize Tuxes and Tails.
“Tuxes and Tails is a truly spectacular event which raised almost $800,000 dollars this year; this is enough to save over 2,200 animals. We had 18 students from Hillsborough partake in the festivities and help set up the event. The event went off without a hitch and it was great to see our Tampa Bay Community come together to support the Humane Society and our furry friends,” Novorska said.
Not only was the annual Tuxes and Tails filled with joy and live entertainment, it was also an opportunity for the dogs and cats that were present to find their fur-ever homes.
