Looking for a heart-racing binge to get in the mood for summer? Look no further. Reminiscent of “Riverdale” in its themes and ridiculous plot, “Outer Banks” attracts the same youthful audience. Filled with action, romance and an exciting group of friends, for many, the show welcomes in the summer of 2020.

While the plot is somewhat similar to that of “Goonies,” the content is much more mature. There is a treasure that must be found and a gang of kids who desperately want to escape their social status. Characters often make choices that disregard their character development or typical behavior, but personally, my eyes don’t leave the screen because their personalities are so enjoyable.

The dynamic between the leads is as exciting as that of “Stranger Things.” The latter is definitively a better show, but “Outer Banks” is much more intense and serious with the same binge-ability. Not to mention the soundtrack, which only adds to the summer vibes. Many have said the show is so addicting because of its lack of cellphones, which allows for the relationships to feel authentic.

June is approaching, and amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, many want to escape reality in favor of a glorious fantasy. “Outer Banks” has flaws, but they don’t detract from its ability to engulf your senses. For that reason, it is a must see.
